Teaching for the 4IR, Session 11: Taking Generative AI and ChatGPT into education

Welcome to Session 11 of the Getting to the Fourth Industrial Revolution Course. In this session, you will learn more about ChatGPT and Generative AI and how to use it in educational contexts.

By the end of the Session, you will:

  • appreciate the use of AI in education as not necessarily cheating
  • develop an acceptable and unacceptable use of AI policy
  • be able to use AI to personalise learners’ education: interactive tutor, reading aid
  • be able to use AI to create effective explanations, examples, analogies
  • appreciate the use of MagicSchool.ai as an application of generative AI
  • be able to use AI for planning: lesson planning
  • be able to use AI for content development: conceptual understanding generator, common misconception generator
  • be able to use AI to create assessment tools: multiple choice quizzes, rubrics

This session is about using Generative AI, and ChatGPT in ways that make an educator’s life easier.

We will focus on using AI in educational contexts.

Before we get started, please be aware that this session was written in November and December of 2023. The field of AI is changing just about all the time. This session will give you enough knowledge to go about finding out about the latest developments by yourself.

We suggest that you download the Class Notes first so you can follow along during the training.
