Using social media to teach, Session 8: TikTok in the classroom

Welcome to TikTok in the classroom, Session 8 of Using social media to teach. In this session, you will learn how to use TikTok, and then develop the knowledge and skills you need to use TikTok in pedagogically sound ways in your classroom.

By the end of the session, you will:

• be able to explain the strengths and weaknesses of short-form video apps
• be familiar with a brief history of TikTok
• be able to talk about the educational uses of TikTok
• have created TikTok Account in a browser and/or the TikTok App
• know how to navigate the various TikTok Pages and Buttons
• be able to explain the uses of TikTok Groups, Communities and Broadcast Lists
• appreciate the importance of copyright
• understand what Digital Citizenship is
• appreciate the importance of the pedagogically sound use of TikTok in the classroom
• understand four ways of evaluating a TikTok-based lesson
• analyse lesson plans where TikTok is used

We will cover four key areas in this session.

1. An introduction to TikTok.
2. Getting started with TikTok, where you will learn about the social medium and how to use it.
3. Ideas for using TikTok in your class.
4. Lesson plans using TikTok.
