Teaching for the 4IR, Session 10: An Introduction to Generative AI and ChatGPT

Welcome to Session 10 of the Getting to the Fourth Industrial Revolution Course. In this session, you will learn more about ChatGPT and Generative AI.

By the end of the Session, you will:

• be able to explain what AI, Generative AI and ChatGPT are
• be able to discuss the similarities and differences between Generative AI applications: Google Bard, Microsoft Bing
• be able to talk about the pros and cons of using generative AI
• be able to access ChatGPT on the web and apps
• be able to create a basic prompt and understand how output is created
• understand the importance of verifying information from generative AI
• understand what prompt engineering is and why it is important to do skilfully
• be able to create various prompts

We will cover three topics in this session:

1. An introduction to ChatGPT, AI and Generative AI
2. A Focus on ChatGPT
3. Prompt engineering

Please be aware that this session was written in October and November of 2023. The field of AI is changing just about all the time. This session will give you enough knowledge to find out about the latest developments by yourself.

We suggest that you download the Class Notes first so you can follow along during the training.
